What is the Difference Between Mulberry Silk and Regular Silk?
Mulberry Silk (桑蠶絲): Produced by domesticated silkworms fed on mulberry leaves. Features exceptionally long, continuous, pure white fibers for an ultra-smooth and premium touch.
Regular / Tussah Silk (普通/柞蠶絲): Produced by wild silkworms fed on oak leaves. Features coarser, yellowish or brownish fibers that usually require chemical bleaching.

How to Choose the Right Silk Duvet?
For Ultimate Comfort: Mulberry silk (especially long-strand mulberry silk) is highly recommended. It offers an exceptionally smooth, skin-friendly touch, making it perfect for high-end quilts and intimate bedding.
For Budget-Friendly Value: If you have a limited budget, Tussah silk still retains the natural moisture-absorbing, breathable, anti-mite, and hypoallergenic qualities of silk, making it a cost-effective choice.

FAQs: Silk Duvets & Silk Comforters
How can I tell if a silk quilt is genuinely 100% mulberry silk?
A genuine silk quilt should be filled with 100% mulberry silk rather than blended silk waste — that's what gives it long fibres, a natural sheen and a true "cool in summer, warm in winter" feel.
Cheaper alternatives sometimes mix in synthetic filling or lower-grade Tussah silk, so always check the label states the exact silk type and momme weight, not just "silk-filled".
Every Natural Home silk quilt is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, confirming the fill genuinely matches its stated composition.
Why is there such a big price gap between silk quilts, and how can I tell if I'm getting good value?
Three things drive the price.
- The silk itself: organic Tussah is the affordable option, while 100% Mulberry silk sits at the top — especially Double Palace silk, spun by two silkworms into a stronger floss that lasts 10+ years versus 3–5 years for cheaper spun silk.
- The shell: entry-level uses a fibre shell, mid-range 100% cotton, and our top-tier quilts use 17-momme pure Mulberry silk.
- The filling weight: summer quilts hold 433–704g, all-season 1,200–1,950g, winter 1,800–2,925g.
A cheaper silk quilt isn't necessarily lower quality — usually just Tussah silk with a fibre shell and a shorter lifespan.
Which silk quilt weight should I choose — summer, all-season or winter?
The right choice comes down to fill weight, not the type of silk.
- Summer quilts (Twin 433g / Queen 595g / King 704g) suit an air-conditioned room while preventing the chill of over-strong AC.
- All-Season quilts (1,200g / 1,650g / 1,950g) are the practical single-insert choice for most homes.
- Winter quilts (1,800g / 2,475g / 2,925g) suit anyone who sleeps cold.
All come in Twin (64"x88"), Queen (88"x88") and King (104"x88"). If you sleep especially cold, our Down Quilt collection offers extra warmth options you can layer with silk bedding.
Silk quilts cannot be machine washed — is a silk quilt difficult to look after?
- Less trouble than expected, because the insert is not what you wash.
- Keep it inside a duvet cover and launder that as normal; the quilt itself only needs occasional airing in a shaded, ventilated spot to restore its loft.
- For a stain, hand wash with a mild neutral detergent below 30°C — never washing powder, bleach or direct sunlight.
- Store it loosely folded, and never vacuum-pack or compress it.
