What is the Difference Between Mulberry Silk and Regular Silk?
1. Origin and Cultivation Method
- Mulberry Silk: Produced by domesticated silkworms fed on mulberry leaves in a controlled environment. The silk fibers are exceptionally long and continuous, featuring a natural pure white color.
- Tussah Silk / Regular Silk: Produced by wild silkworms fed on oak leaves in the wild. The fibers are coarser, with a natural yellowish or light brownish hue, and usually require bleaching during processing.
Buying Advice
For Ultimate Comfort: Mulberry silk (especially long-strand mulberry silk) is highly recommended. It offers an exceptionally smooth, skin-friendly touch, making it perfect for high-end quilts and intimate bedding.
For Budget-Friendly Value: If you have a limited budget, Tussah silk still retains the natural moisture-absorbing, breathable, anti-mite, and hypoallergenic qualities of silk, making it a cost-effective choice.
